Good evening everybody, and happy holidays. Here is a quick technology update on the progress we have made over the last few months, and the upgrades we are performing to serve you better in the coming year. For the last four months we have been building and testing an extensive upgrade to our virtualized servers which will allow us to provide cloud-based services to a wider audience. Beta testing generally went well, but showed us two weak areas in our design. Before we go public with this new cloud service, we will be upgrading our network switching, and our shared storage pool. - we are upgrading our switches to support the advanced network autoprovisioning features of the vCloud. This will require every server in the network to be unplugged and replugged, so we will do this during our regular maintenance window of Sunday evening, after 9pm Eastern. A notice will be sent in advance of the work - the new switches have not yet arrived. - we have also procured a replacement for our shared storage pool. The existing pool did not provide the redunancy required for a production network. Instead, we are investing in Sun-based storage. The purchase order has been made, and we anticipate delivery in a week. This will not be customer impacting, as long as we do this maintenance after the switch upgrades. After the upgrade, not only will our capacity be an order of magnitude higher, but the redundancy will be tripled. In addition, we will be expanding our support coverage to 24x7, beginning in January. This will coincide with the official launch of the cloud service. Thank you again for your patronage in 2011, and we look forward to serving you in 2012 and beyond. Kind regards, Robert Hof Read more » | |
